Donating your car to charity can be a great way to save big on your taxes.  The great news is there are a few local options here in Boise that can make the process effortless.

According to the IRS, donors may claim a deduction of the vehicle’s fair market value under the following circumstances:

  • The charity makes a significant intervening use of the vehicle, such as using it to deliver meals on wheels.
  • The charity makes a material improvement to the vehicle, i.e., major repairs that significantly increase its value and not mere painting or cleaning.
  • The charity donates or sells the vehicle to a needy individual at a significantly below-market price, if the transfer furthers the charitable purpose of helping a poor person in need of a means of transportation.

In order to meet the guideline required by the IRS, here are the local businesses that are able to best guide you through this process.

Idaho Youth Ranch Auto Center

When working with the folks at the Idaho Youth Ranch, they make the process simple and straight-forward.  The staff are very friendly and will even take care of all the details so you don’t have to.  Call Call Gary Halverson, Director of Vehicle Sales, at (208) 375-7965 to start the process.

You can even see the current car listings offered for sale on Craigslist. https://boise.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=iyr&sort=rel

Here at Review Boise we have personally used Idaho Youth Ranch for a car donation and can highly recommend them for your car donation needs.

Heritage for the Blind of Boise

Another great option in Boise is the Heritage for the Blind of Boise.  They offer free pick up of your vehicle, which is a great option when your old jalopy just doesn’t run anymore.  You can donate cars, vans, trucks, RVs, boats, heavy equipment, pianos and real estate. Vehicles do not have to run – however they cannot be stripped of doors, or parts.  Call (208) 437-8215 to make arrangements.
